Haas Alarm 1130 - Probe Communication

Probe Communication

This alarm indicates the Haas control has lost communication with a Renishaw or compatible wireless probing system installed on the machine. The MOCON board monitors serial communication and wireless signal integrity between the probe receiver module and the control. Loss of communication prevents probe cycles from executing and typically occurs when the wireless link is broken or the probe system is powered off or malfunctioning.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 1130 occurs when the NGC control loses communication with the wireless probe system during initialization, measurement cycles, or status polling. This typically results from RF interference, low probe battery, receiver hardware failure, or incorrect probe system parameters in the control.

Safety

  • Disconnect spindle drive power (open spindle motor contactor or set Parameter 31 Bit 12 to disable spindle) before removing or handling probe in spindle to prevent accidental spindle rotation during probe battery replacement or inspection.
  • If testing probe receiver while machine is powered, keep hands clear of automatic tool changer swing arm and spindle Z-axis travel zone—diagnostics mode may allow unexpected axis motion on some control versions.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Probe Battery Status

Navigate to CURRENT COMMANDS > PROBING to view probe battery status and signal strength indicators on the NGC display.

Battery life typically shows 2-3 years with normal usage patterns

  2. 2

    Test Probe Activation

Manually deflect the probe stylus and observe the PROBE LED on the operator panel. LED should illuminate immediately when stylus is deflected.

Ensure spindle is stopped before manually testing probe

  3. 3

    Replace Probe Battery

If battery is low, power down machine, remove probe from spindle, and replace battery per manufacturer specifications. Reinitialize probe system after battery replacement.

Always use lithium batteries as specified - alkaline batteries will cause premature failure

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Control board interface fault suspected
  • ·Multiple probe system components failing
  • ·Persistent alarm after all troubleshooting steps

Prevention

  • Replace probe batteries annually
  • Keep receiver clean and free of coolant
  • Minimize RF interference sources near machine
  • Regularly verify probe parameter settings

Common Mistakes

  • Using wrong battery type in probe
  • Setting probe timeout too low
  • Ignoring RF interference sources
  • Not maintaining clear line of sight to receiver
