Haas Alarm 1030 - Wireless Probe Battery Low

Probe Battery Low

This alarm warns that the battery powering the tool probe memory or probe circuit board has depleted below the operational threshold. The Renishaw or Haas wireless tool probe uses an internal battery to maintain calibration data and power wireless transmission circuits. If the battery dies completely, stored probe offsets and calibration will be lost requiring complete probe requalification.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 1030 occurs when the wireless probe transmitter's battery voltage drops below the operational threshold, as detected by the probe receiver module through status bits in the RF signal packet. The NGC control monitors this battery status flag during probe activation cycles and triggers the alarm to prevent measurement errors from weak signal transmission or inconsistent probe triggering.

Safety

  • Power down machine at main disconnect before opening probe battery compartment to prevent accidental spindle activation or probe damage from movement during service
  • Do not use non-alkaline or rechargeable batteries unless explicitly specified by probe manufacturer, as voltage characteristics differ and can cause erratic probe behavior or false triggers leading to crashes
  • Ensure battery compartment seal is properly seated after replacement to maintain IP rating and prevent coolant intrusion that can cause electrical shorts or corrosion damage to probe electronics

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Probe Battery Status

Navigate to SETTING 85 (PROBE) menu and verify the wireless probe battery indicator shows low or critical status.

Battery life typically ranges 6-12 months depending on usage frequency

  2. 2

    Replace Probe Battery

Remove the wireless probe from the spindle, unscrew the battery compartment, and replace with new lithium battery (typically CR2032 or manufacturer specified).

Ensure probe is powered off before battery replacement to prevent data corruption

  3. 3

    Test Probe Communication

Reinstall probe and verify communication by checking SETTING 85 battery status indicator returns to normal and test probe triggering manually.

Allow 30 seconds after battery installation for the probe to establish RF communication

  4. 4

    Clear Alarm and Verify

Press RESET to clear alarm 1030 and run a simple probing cycle to confirm proper operation and signal strength.

Document battery replacement date in maintenance log for tracking

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Probe continues showing low battery after new battery installation
  • ·Multiple wireless probes showing same alarm
  • ·Receiver module hardware failure suspected

Prevention

  • Replace probe batteries every 6-8 months as preventive maintenance
  • Monitor battery status in SETTING 85 regularly
  • Keep spare batteries in stock
  • Document battery replacement dates

Common Mistakes

  • Installing incorrect battery type
  • Not allowing time for RF re-pairing after battery change
  • Ignoring alarm and continuing to use probe with low battery
  • Not checking actual battery voltage with multimeter
