SRVO-065

Fanuc Robot SRVO-065 - BLAL alarm (battery low)

BLAL alarm (battery low)

The pulse coder backup battery voltage has dropped below the allowable minimum. Replace the battery immediately while the robot is powered on to prevent position data loss.

Root Cause Summary

SRVO-065 BLAL alarm indicates the pulse coder backup battery voltage has fallen below the minimum threshold required to maintain absolute position data in the motor encoders. This battery maintains position memory when the controller is powered off, and failure to replace it immediately while powered on will result in lost mastering data requiring complete robot re-mastering.

Safety

  • Always verify robot is in a safe stopped state before entering the work envelope
  • Use T1 (low speed) mode when testing after clearing motion or servo alarms

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Verify alarm details on teach pendant

Press MENU > ALARM > F1 [TYPE] > select 'SERVO' to view SRVO-065 details. Note which axis group is affected (typically displayed as 'Group: 1'). Record the current alarm time/date for maintenance logs.

Check MENU > ALARM > F2 [HIST] to see if BLAL has occurred before or has been intermittent, which indicates the battery has been marginal for some time.

  2. 2

    Prepare replacement battery and tools

Obtain correct Fanuc pulse coder battery (typically A98L-0031-0025 for most R-30iA/R-30iB systems, or A06B-6114-K504 for some configurations). Have Phillips screwdriver ready. Verify new battery voltage is >3.0V with multimeter before installation.

DO NOT power off the controller until the new battery is installed. Powering off will cause immediate loss of all position data requiring complete mastering of all axes.

  3. 3

    Replace battery while powered on

Locate battery box on robot base (typically J1 axis base cover). Remove cover screws and locate battery holder. Quickly disconnect old battery and connect new battery within 30 seconds to minimize risk. Ensure correct polarity (red=positive). Secure battery holder and replace cover.

Some robots have the battery in the controller cabinet instead of the robot base. Check maintenance manual for your specific model. Look for cable labeled 'BATTERY' or 'BATT' connected to the axis control board.

Battery replacement must be completed within 30 seconds. Have the new battery pre-positioned and ready before disconnecting the old one.

  4. 4

    Clear alarm and verify resolution

After battery replacement, press RESET on teach pendant. The SRVO-065 alarm should clear immediately. Navigate to MENU > SYSTEM > Variables > $SCR.$BATTERY_ALARM to verify value is 0 (FALSE). If alarm persists, check battery connection.

The alarm will not auto-clear on some controller versions until the next power cycle, but the battery voltage is being monitored immediately.

  5. 5

    Update maintenance records and schedule

Record battery replacement date in MENU > SYSTEM > Maintenance > Battery. Set next replacement reminder for 3 years. Update physical maintenance log with battery part number, date, and technician name. Dispose of old battery per local regulations.

Program a calendar reminder 6 months before the 3-year mark to order replacement batteries and schedule preventive replacement before the alarm occurs.
