Fanuc 391 - Chamfering parameter error
Alarm 391 occurs when the CNC control detects invalid chamfering parameters in a G01 or G00 block with chamfering (,C or ,A) command. This is typically caused by specifying a chamfer value that is larger than the available movement distance, incorrect format of the chamfer parameter, or attempting to chamfer when the geometrical conditions don't allow it.
Fanuc 391 - Chamfering parameter error
CHAMFERING PARAMETER ERROR
Fanuc PS program alarm 391: CHAMFERING PARAMETER ERROR. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 391 occurs when the CNC control detects invalid chamfering parameters in a G01 or G00 block with chamfering (,C or ,A) command. This is typically caused by specifying a chamfer value that is larger than the available movement distance, incorrect format of the chamfer parameter, or attempting to chamfer when the geometrical conditions don't allow it.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Identify the program block triggering the alarm and note the line number (N-number) displayed with the alarm.
Check the chamfer value specified (,C or ,A parameter) and compare it to the total axis movement distance in that block.
Calculate if the chamfer dimension is less than half the movement distance for linear moves. For ,C value, ensure C < movement distance. For ,A angle, verify the resulting chamfer is achievable.
Reduce the chamfer value to be within acceptable limits (typically less than the shortest axis movement in the block) and re-run the program.
Always verify chamfer dimensions don't exceed 50% of the shortest programmed move to avoid geometric conflicts.
