Fanuc 263 - Retrace data overflow
Alarm 263 RETRACE DATA OVERFLOW occurs when the control's buffer for storing retrace path data is exceeded during program execution. This typically happens when there are too many consecutive blocks of very small moves, excessive corner deceleration points, or complex tool radius compensation (G41/G42) paths that generate more retrace data than the control can store. The control needs retrace data to safely back out of a path if feedhold or stop is commanded.

RETRACE DATA OVERFLOW
Fanuc PS program alarm 263: RETRACE DATA OVERFLOW. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Safety
Causes and Fixes
Review the program around the alarm location for excessive G01 blocks with very small incremental moves (typically less than 0.001-0.01mm/inch).
Check CAM system tolerance settings - reduce the number of output segments by increasing chord tolerance or using G02/G03 arc commands instead of linearized segments.
Insert M00 or M01 stops periodically in long contouring sections to clear the retrace buffer, or break the program into smaller subprograms.
Verify parameter 8136 (retrace buffer size) is set appropriately - consult Fanuc documentation for your specific control model before modification.
Changing buffer parameters incorrectly can cause system instability or other alarms.
