Fanuc Alarm 206 - CAN NOT CHANGE PLANE (RIGID TAP)
Alarm 206 occurs when the CNC detects a plane selection command (G17, G18, or G19) while in rigid tapping mode (G84/G74 cycle active or between M29 Sxxxxx and M3/M4). The control does not allow plane changes during rigid tap operations because the spindle-axis synchronization is locked to the currently active plane.

SYSTEM ALARM 206
Fanuc alarm 206: SYSTEM ALARM 206. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 206 occurs when the CNC detects a plane selection command (G17, G18, or G19) while in rigid tapping mode (G84/G74 cycle active or between M29 Sxxxxx and M3/M4). The control does not allow plane changes during rigid tap operations because the spindle-axis synchronization is locked to the currently active plane.
Causes and Fixes
Review the NC program at the alarm line. Look for G17/G18/G19 commands between the G84/G74 call and the G80 cancel command or before the canned cycle completes all hole positions.
Verify program structure: Ensure G80 is programmed to cancel the rigid tap cycle before any plane selection command. Check for subprograms (M98) that may contain plane changes called during the cycle.
Check parameter 5200#0 (G84 type) to confirm rigid tap configuration. On SYSTEM > PARAM screen, verify bit settings match intended rigid tap operation method.
Correct the program by moving the G17/G18/G19 command after the G80 cancel or restructure the program to complete all tapping operations in one plane before changing to another plane.
