Siemens 8098 - Invalid combination of options ( )

Invalid combination of options

The following restrictions apply to this module for the combination of options: The option "Two-channel" and the options "External language", "Nibbling", "Neural quadrant error compensation" and "Measurement level 2" exclude one another! Bit0 (LSB): Nibbling Bit1: External language Bit2: Neural quadrant error compensation Bit3: Measurement level 2 Control reaction: Mode group not ready. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 8098 fires when mutually exclusive servo module options are simultaneously enabled in the NC kernel configuration. The Two-channel mode cannot coexist with Nibbling, External language, Neural quadrant error compensation, or Measurement level 2 options due to hardware/software resource conflicts in the SINUMERIK servo architecture.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Siemens SINUMERIK HMI and navigate to Diagnostics > Servo > Module Configuration or use ShopMill/ShopTurn: Parameters > Machine Data > Servo settings.

  2. 2

Locate MD10200 (or equivalent servo axis module selection parameter) and verify Two-channel mode is enabled. Cross-reference with MD10210+ servo option bits.

  3. 3

Disable Two-channel mode OR disable the conflicting option (Nibbling, External language, Neural quadrant error compensation, or Measurement level 2). Document which feature is operationally required.

  4. 4

Perform complete NC reset (Ctrl+Reset or HMI system reset) and reload servo parameter sets. Verify alarm clears in Diagnostics > Alarms archive.
