Siemens 840D 61556 - Channel block: Impossible chamfer and radius of left edge of
Alarm 61556 occurs in CYCLE432 (grinding cycle) when the chamfer and radius parameters specified for the left edge of the grinding wheel geometry are mathematically incompatible or exceed physical constraints of the wheel profile. The NCK cannot generate a valid tool path with these conflicting geometric specifications.

Channel block: Impossible chamfer and radius of left edge of
Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 61556: Channel block: Impossible chamfer and radius of left edge of. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 61556 occurs in CYCLE432 (grinding cycle) when the chamfer and radius parameters specified for the left edge of the grinding wheel geometry are mathematically incompatible or exceed physical constraints of the wheel profile. The NCK cannot generate a valid tool path with these conflicting geometric specifications.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access the grinding wheel data table via Siemens HMI menu: Diagnostics > Tool Data > Grinding Wheels or via SINUMERIK Shop Mill/Turn interface. Locate the active wheel record used in CYCLE432.
Verify wheel diameter (D1 parameter) and wheel width (B parameter) in the grinding wheel record. Cross-reference with CYCLE432 call parameters CHA (chamfer) and RAD (radius) in the part program block.
Ensure CHA + RAD does not exceed wheel width B, and that geometric clearance exists for both features on the left edge profile.
Reduce chamfer or radius values in the CYCLE432 call, or increase the grinding wheel width/diameter in the tool data to accommodate both geometric features.
Re-execute the part program block. If alarm persists, verify wheel data was saved (MD parameter TOOL_CHNG_POS or equivalent tool offset update).
