Siemens 840D 61604 - Channel block: Active tool violates programmed contour

Channel block: Active tool violates programmed contour

Contour violation in the relief cut elements due to the tool clearance angle of the tool used. Alarm triggered by following cycle: CYCLE95.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Tool clearance angle specification in CYCLE95 does not match actual tool geometry or tool offset data
  • Tool offset values (length or radius) are incorrect or not updated after tool change
  • Programmed contour path is too narrow or complex for the selected tool's physical dimensions
  • Relief cut parameters in CYCLE95 call do not account for tool nose radius or flank angle

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify tool geometry data in the tool management system matches the physical tool currently loaded, including clearance angle, nose radius, and flank angle specifications
  2. 2Review CYCLE95 parameters in the NC program block - confirm contour offset and tool clearance angle values are appropriate for the application
  3. 3Inspect tool offset table entries for the active tool; recalculate and update length and radius offsets if tool has been recently changed or re-sharpened
  4. 4Simulate the program in the CNC control to visualize the tool path and identify exact contour violation points; adjust either tool selection or CYCLE95 parameters accordingly
  5. 5Test with a larger clearance angle value or reduced contour depth if program modification is feasible; otherwise replace with a tool having smaller nose radius
