Siemens 840D 61527 - Channel block: Grinding wheel radius >= workpiece radius

Channel block: Grinding wheel radius >= workpiece radius

The alarm can be triggered by the following grinding cycle: CYCLE414 Remedy: Change grinding wheel radius or workpiece radius

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Grinding wheel diameter has worn below the workpiece diameter during operation
  • Incorrect grinding wheel radius value entered in the CYCLE414 grinding cycle parameters
  • Workpiece radius programmed smaller than actual grinding wheel radius
  • Tool offset or tool radius compensation not updated after wheel dressing
  • Grinding wheel radius parameter in machine offset table does not match physical wheel size

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the physical grinding wheel diameter with calipers and compare to the radius value stored in the tool offset table or CYCLE414 parameters
  2. 2Check the CYCLE414 cycle definition in the part program and confirm the grinding wheel radius parameter is correct and less than the workpiece radius
  3. 3Measure the actual workpiece diameter and confirm it is larger than the grinding wheel diameter being used
  4. 4If wheel was recently dressed, update the grinding wheel radius in the machine tool database and active tool offsets to reflect the new diameter
  5. 5Review the block number indicated in the alarm message (%2) in the NC program and adjust either the wheel radius or workpiece radius parameter in that CYCLE414 call
