Siemens 840D 61408 - Channel block: total offsets not present
Alarm 61408 occurs when a measuring cycle (e.g., MEAS, MEASA, MEASW) is executed without the total offset memory being initialized or available in the active channel. The NCK cannot apply probe offsets to the workpiece coordinate system because the prerequisite offset dataset has not been configured or enabled via MD 18080 Bit 8.
Siemens 840D 61408 - Channel block: total offsets not present
Channel block: total offsets not present
Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 61408: Channel block: total offsets not present. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 61408 occurs when a measuring cycle (e.g., MEAS, MEASA, MEASW) is executed without the total offset memory being initialized or available in the active channel. The NCK cannot apply probe offsets to the workpiece coordinate system because the prerequisite offset dataset has not been configured or enabled via MD 18080 Bit 8.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access Siemens HMI → Diagnostics → Machine Data → search MD 18080 (Total Offset Machine Data).
Verify current value of MD 18080. Check Bit 8 status (bit weighting: Bit 0=1, Bit 1=2, Bit 2=4, Bit 8=256). If value mod 512 is less than 256, Bit 8 is disabled.
Do not modify machine data while NC program is running or in automatic cycle mode.
Set MD 18080 Bit 8 = 1 by adding 256 to the current MD 18080 value (if Bit 8 is currently 0). Save configuration and warm restart NC kernel.
Re-execute the measuring cycle block %2 in channel %1 to verify alarm 61408 is cleared.
