4310

Siemens 4310 - Declaration in MD index is not allowed.

Declaration in MD index is not allowed.

The machine data values must be written in the array in ascending order Control reaction: Mode group not ready. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 4310 fires when machine data array declarations in the NCK parameter set are written out of ascending index order. The SINUMERIK 840D control requires all indexed MD entries to be sequentially ordered; declaring a lower index after a higher index violates this requirement and triggers a syntax/validation error during MD compilation.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Diagnostics > Machine Data (or use MDI editor in HMI) and locate the specific MD parameter mentioned in the alarm message (check alarm detail for MD number and index %1 and %2 values).

Record the exact MD parameter number and index values from the alarm message.

  2. 2

Verify all indices for this MD array are listed in strictly ascending order (0, 1, 2, 3... with no gaps or reversals). Use the MD editor's sort or list view to confirm sequence.

Do not assume numerical gaps are acceptable; check the allowed range for that specific MD parameter in the SINUMERIK 840D reference documentation.

  3. 3

If indices are out of order, reorder all declarations so indices appear in ascending sequence. Delete and re-enter the offending index in the correct position, or use the HMI's MD reorganization/export-import feature to correct the sequence.

  4. 4

Save the MD configuration, trigger an NCK reset (Ctrl+Shift+Reset or control panel reset), and verify the alarm clears during startup.

A full NC/PLC Reset may be required; do not attempt online MD modification if the array structure is malformed.
