Enter the correct resolution value in MD 1032 corresponding to your SSI encoder's absolute position bits. Save and activate the machine data via 'NC → Save' or equivalent menu path.

Power cycle the SINUMERIK 840D control and perform an axis reset (Ctrl+Shift+R on standard panels or via PLC NC START command). Verify alarm 301713 clears.

Navigate to Machine Data for axis %1 → Review MD 1030 ($MD_ENC_ABS_TYPE) to confirm it is set to 'SSI' (typically value 2 or 4 depending on SINUMERIK version). Check MD 1031 ($MD_ENC_ABS_LENGTH) matches your SSI cable/sensor configuration.

Verify in the PLC NCK axis configuration that the SSI encoder interface is physically wired to the correct input module or daughterboard for drive %2 (check CU/TF diagnostics if applicable).

Incorrect wiring to encoder input will cause 301713 even if MD parameters are correct.

If encoder was recently replaced or reconfigured, regenerate the machine data configuration via SINUMERIK Operate 'Commissioning' → 'Axis Configuration' → Re-assign encoder and select SSI type from dropdown, which should auto-populate MD 1032 based on encoder datasheet.

Save updated machine data and restart the control. If MD 1032 still shows 0 after reconfiguration, manually enter the encoder resolution and retest.

In SINUMERIK Operate, select 'Machine Data' → 'Export' to download the current MD configuration to an external file for backup. Check the file contents for axis %1: verify MD 1030 contains SSI type and MD 1032 contains 0.

Restore machine data from the last known good backup (prior to the alarm occurring). Navigate to 'Machine Data' → 'Import' and select the backup .spf or .xml file.

Ensure backup predates the configuration change that introduced the alarm.

If no backup is available, manually re-enter MD 1032 with the SSI encoder resolution, or re-run the OEM commissioning wizard/parameter generation script if provided with your machine tool.

Restart the control and verify alarm 301713 is cleared. If corruption persists across multiple reboots, request factory parameter defaults via Siemens Service and re-commission the affected axis.
