Access the DP Master configuration tool (STEP 7 Hardware Configuration or Automation Tool). Compare the current PROFIBUS node assignment, baud rate, and module GSD versions against the last known working configuration. Document any changes in slot positions, device addresses, or safety module parameters.

Do not modify DP master configuration without first backing up the current NCK safety database (use Automatic Backup function or manual SD card export).

On the SINUMERIK 840D, navigate to Diagnostics > PROFIBUS > Configuration Status. Check the stored configuration checksum (typically displayed as hexadecimal hash) and compare it against the DP master's current checksum reported in the alarm details (%1 and %2 parameters).

Re-download the DP master configuration to the S7 PLC using STEP 7 (Block Transfer or Download function). Immediately perform a full NCK system startup with cold start (MD 20050 = 0, then power cycle). This forces the NCK to re-scan and validate the entire PROFIBUS network against stored GSD files.

Cold start will clear volatile memory; ensure all part programs and offset data are saved externally.

Monitor the NCK Diagnostics > System > Boot Log for PROFIsafe initialization messages. If the checksum still mismatches, the GSD files on the DP master may be corrupted; reload the original GSD file library from the engineering station and repeat configuration download.

Identify all PROFIBUS F-modules (safety modules) in the configuration. Note their part numbers, firmware versions (accessible via Module Properties in Hardware Config), and corresponding GSD file versions stored on the engineering station. Cross-reference against the NCK's GSD library (typically located in /siemens/gsd/ directory on the control's hard drive or CompactFlash).

Obtain the exact GSD file version that matches the physical F-module hardware and firmware revision. Download the GSD from Siemens Support (Digital Industries website) if the local copy is outdated. Use STEP 7 > Tools > GSD Installation to register the correct GSD version in the DP master's database.

Do not mix GSD versions for the same module type within a single PROFIBUS network; this will cause checksum errors.

Re-import the GSD files into the NCK safety database using the Automatic Update function (if available on your 840D firmware) or manually via Siemens Automation Tool > PROFIsafe > Update GSD Library. Perform a download cycle and reinitialize PROFIBUS (MD 20050 cold start sequence).

Verify that the alarm %1 and %2 error codes now show matching checksums in Diagnostics > PROFIBUS > Safety Status. Document the corrected GSD versions in your maintenance records to prevent future mismatches.

Physical inspect the PROFIBUS cable and all connected nodes. Count the actual devices and verify each device's address (often labeled on the module or visible via PROFIBUS address rotary switch). Compare against the DP master's Hardware Configuration node list.

Power down the control and disconnect the PROFIBUS cable before inspecting nodes to avoid electrical shock and accidental address changes.
