Siemens 840D 27096 - SPL start not allowed

SPL start not allowed

Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 27096: SPL start not allowed. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 27096 fires when attempting to start SPL (Spindle) while the machine is in a protected state (MD $MN_PREVENT_SYNACT_LOCK set to non-zero value) without Safety Integrated functionality enabled. The SINUMERIK control requires at least one axis to have Safety Integrated activated via MD $MA_SAFE_FUNCTION_ENABLE before SPL operation is permitted in protected mode.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Diagnostics > Parameters > Machine Data and verify MD $MN_PREVENT_SYNACT_LOCK[0] and MD $MN_PREVENT_SYNACT_LOCK[1] values. Non-zero indicates protected state is active.

  2. 2

Check MD $MA_SAFE_FUNCTION_ENABLE for all configured axes (typically axis 1-6 in multi-axis systems). Verify at least one axis shows value = 1.

If all axes show $MA_SAFE_FUNCTION_ENABLE = 0, Safety Integrated module is disabled.

  3. 3

Enable Safety Integrated by setting MD $MA_SAFE_FUNCTION_ENABLE = 1 for the spindle drive axis or primary axis. Store parameters and perform cold start (POWER ON).

Parameter changes require machine restart; coordinate with production scheduling.

  4. 4

After restart, verify SPL start is permitted by attempting spindle start via MDI or program. Alarm 27096 should clear if Safety Integrated initialization succeeds.
