Siemens 840D 16699 - Channel block following axis/spindle leading axis/spindle
Alarm 16699 occurs when an NC block attempts to execute a command on a following axis/spindle that references an undefined or unconfigured leading axis/spindle in a coupling relationship. This indicates a mismatch between the programmed coupling instruction and the actual machine kinematic configuration defined in the control parameters.

Channel block following axis/spindle leading axis/spindle
Siemens SINUMERIK 840D alarm 16699: Channel block following axis/spindle leading axis/spindle. This alarm indicates a program or channel-level error on the SINUMERIK control. The part program or machine function cannot be executed as commanded.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 16699 occurs when an NC block attempts to execute a command on a following axis/spindle that references an undefined or unconfigured leading axis/spindle in a coupling relationship. This indicates a mismatch between the programmed coupling instruction and the actual machine kinematic configuration defined in the control parameters.

Causes and Fixes
Access Diagnostics > Machine Data menu and navigate to MD 32200 (Coupling Type) for the channel and axis specified in the alarm. Verify that a coupling type (1=Spindle-to-Axis, 2=Axis-to-Spindle, etc.) is assigned to the following axis.
Check MD 32210 (Coupled Leading Axis/Spindle Name) for the following axis. The leading axis/spindle name must exactly match a configured real axis or spindle identifier in the system. Verify character-for-character spelling against the axis definition in MD 1008 or spindle names in the Configuration.
Leading axis name is case-sensitive; 'SPINDLE1' is not equivalent to 'Spindle1'.
Confirm that the leading axis/spindle exists in the machine configuration. Access NCK > Axes/Spindles menu and verify the leading axis/spindle is active and not disabled via MD 3000 (Axis/Spindle Available).
Save machine data changes and perform a cold restart (Ctrl+Shift+F9) to reload the NCK kinematic configuration. Attempt the same NC block again and monitor the alarm queue.
