Siemens 840D 14530 - Channel block EXTERN and PROC instruction do not correspond

Channel block EXTERN and PROC instruction do not correspond

Subroutines with parameter transfer must be known before they are called in the program. If the subroutines are always available (fixed cycles) the control establishes the call interfaces at the time of system power-up. Otherwise an EXTERN statement must be programmed in the calling program. Example

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • EXTERN declaration missing or incorrectly defined for the called subroutine in the calling program
  • Mismatch between EXTERN parameter list and actual PROC parameter list (count, data types, or order)
  • Subroutine called before EXTERN statement is encountered during program parsing
  • Parameter names or data types differ between EXTERN declaration and corresponding PROC definition
  • EXTERN statement references wrong subroutine name or file path

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Review the calling program and verify an EXTERN statement exists for each subroutine with parameters before the first CALL instruction
  2. 2Compare the EXTERN parameter list against the actual PROC definition in the subroutine - confirm parameter count, sequence, and data types match exactly
  3. 3Check subroutine file paths and names in both EXTERN and PROC statements; verify spelling and directory references are correct
  4. 4Ensure EXTERN declarations appear in the correct program scope and before any CALL statements that reference the subroutine
  5. 5Recompile or reload the program and subroutine files to ensure the control re-establishes call interfaces
