KUKA Robot KRC0509 - Data storage device not ready: ...

Data storage device not ready: ...

This alarm indicates that the data storage device (floppy disk drive or external storage medium) is not accessible or ready for read/write operations on the KUKA KRC controller. The system has attempted to access the storage device but cannot detect it, establish communication, or verify its readiness status. This typically prevents program loading, saving, or data backup operations from proceeding.

Common Causes

  • No floppy disk or storage media is inserted into the drive
  • Floppy disk drive is defective, disconnected, or not recognized by the controller
  • Storage media is damaged, corrupted, or formatted incompatibly
  • Loose or degraded connection cable between the drive and KRC controller motherboard
  • Expired or end-of-life floppy disk drive hardware (mechanical wear or controller failure)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify that a floppy disk or compatible storage medium is properly inserted into the drive until it clicks into place
  2. 2Power cycle the KRC controller completely by turning off the teach pendant and main power, waiting 30 seconds, then powering back on
  3. 3Inspect the disk media for visible damage, dirt, or debris; clean the disk surface gently with a soft lint-free cloth if dirty
  4. 4Check all cable connections between the floppy disk drive and the KRC controller motherboard; reseat connectors firmly if loose
  5. 5If available, test the drive with a known-good floppy disk or try a different storage medium to isolate whether the issue is media or hardware related
  6. 6If the alarm persists after these steps, the floppy disk drive hardware may be defective and require replacement or the use of an alternative storage method (USB adapter or network transfer if supported by your KRC firmware version)
