KRC0489

KUKA Robot KRC0489 - <X,Y,Z,A,B,C> BASE not programmed

<X,Y,Z,A,B,C> BASE not programmed

The $BASE system variable has not been initialized or assigned a coordinate frame value in the active robot program. The $BASE datum defines the reference coordinate system for all TCP (Tool Center Point) movements and must be programmed before executing motion commands. This alarm prevents execution of motion instructions that rely on a defined base coordinate frame.

Common Causes

  • Program starts with motion commands before $BASE is declared and initialized
  • $BASE variable was deleted or commented out in the program
  • Incorrect syntax used when assigning $BASE (missing assignment operator or frame data)
  • Program file corruption or incomplete program transfer to the controller
  • Switching between program files where one file lacks proper $BASE initialization

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify that $BASE is declared and assigned before any motion instructions (LIN, PTP, CIRC commands) in the program
  2. 2Add or restore the $BASE initialization statement using proper syntax: $BASE = FRAME(x, y, z, a, b, c) or $BASE = {X 0, Y 0, Z 0, A 0, B 0, C 0}
  3. 3Check the program source code for syntax errors in the $BASE assignment and correct any malformed expressions
  4. 4Clear the controller memory cache and reload the program file to ensure proper compilation and initialization
  5. 5Use the KRC teach pendant to manually verify program structure and confirm $BASE is active before execution
  6. 6Test program execution in simulation mode first to identify any remaining initialization issues before running on the physical robot
