KUKA Robot KRC0458 - VARIABLE TOO LARGE

VARIABLE TOO LARGE

A variable or data structure exceeds the display capacity of the KUKA smartPAD or diagnostic interface when attempting to view with SHOW VAR or SET INFO commands. This typically occurs with large arrays, complex nested structures, or fields that require more screen real estate than available.

Common Causes

  • Attempting to display an array with thousands of elements in a single SHOW VAR command
  • Nested structure with multiple levels of sub-components exceeding display buffer limits
  • Character string variable containing data larger than the smartPAD display resolution allows
  • Complex motion trace data structures with extensive element information being queried simultaneously
  • Frame or tool data arrays with high-dimensional matrices that cannot render on the operator interface

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the variable size and data type in the KRL source code to confirm it exceeds typical display limits
  2. 2Use index notation to view specific elements instead of the entire array (for example, SHOW VAR myArray[1] instead of myArray)
  3. 3Reduce the scope of the SHOW VAR command by specifying individual array indices or structure members
  4. 4Enable logging to a file or external system to capture the variable contents outside the smartPAD display constraint
  5. 5Review WorkVisual project configuration to verify variable declarations do not exceed recommended sizes for real-time monitoring
  6. 6If necessary, refactor the KRL program to use smaller intermediate variables or split large structures into manageable segments
