KRC0042

KUKA Robot KRC0042 - MOTOR TEMPERATURE **

MOTOR TEMPERATURE **

The PTC thermistor temperature sensor embedded in the motor winding has detected excessive motor temperature and triggered thermal shutdown protection. This safeguard prevents motor insulation degradation and internal winding damage from overheating.

Common Causes

  • Motor operating at maximum rated current continuously without thermal load cycling periods
  • Inadequate ventilation around the robot arm preventing motor cooling air circulation
  • Mechanical friction from worn bearings or joint seals causing excessive motor load current draw
  • Defective motor cooling fan or impeller on coupled motor units not functioning properly
  • PTC thermistor sensor showing false positive due to sensor contact degradation or wiring issues

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Stop all robot motion immediately and allow motor to cool passively for minimum 45 minutes before attempting restart
  2. 2Verify the specific motor joint by checking the alarm details in the KRC4 teach pendant diagnostic menu
  3. 3Perform manual joint movement through SmartPAD with zero load to assess mechanical resistance and listen for grinding noises
  4. 4Inspect motor cooling fins and ventilation slots for blockage by dust, coolant mist, or debris using visual inspection
  5. 5Run KUKA diagnostic motor test via WorkVisual to verify current draw signature matches baseline parameters
  6. 6If alarm recurs, request motor thermal sensor replacement from KUKA authorized service center with motor specifications from robot nameplate
