Haas 520 - OPERATOR EXPECTED | Haas CNC Alarm

OPERATOR EXPECTED

This programming alarm is generated when the Haas control encounters a line in the G-code that requires operator input or a parameter value that is missing or undefined. The control parser expects either a numeric value, a macro variable substitution, or an operator-entered parameter but finds none. This typically occurs with custom macros or when using user-defined parameter calls that have not been properly initialized before execution.

Safety

  • Tap may be stuck in hole

Common Causes

  • Macro program uses a variable or parameter that has not been assigned a value before being called in a calculation or command
  • Custom probing cycle or canned cycle macro expects operator input through a DPRNT statement or parameter call that was not provided
  • Deleted or missing lines in a macro subroutine that previously set required variable values before later program blocks execute
  • Program transferred from a different control or CAM system that uses parameter syntax incompatible with Haas macro variable format
  • Conditional statement evaluates to a state where a required value is undefined, such as division by zero or empty variable reference

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Note the exact program line number where the alarm occurs and review that line in EDIT mode to identify which parameter or variable is being called
  2. 2Step 2: Trace back through the program before the alarm line to verify that all variables and parameters used have been assigned valid numeric values
  3. 3Step 3: Check if the program uses macro variables in the 100-800 range and verify they are initialized, either in the program header or via Settings page
  4. 4Step 4: Review any conditional IF-THEN-ELSE logic to ensure all possible branches assign required values before they are used in subsequent operations
  5. 5Step 5: Test the macro in single-block mode with all variables manually set to known good values to isolate which specific call is causing the fault
  6. 6Step 6: Consult the original macro documentation or CAM post-processor settings to verify proper variable initialization sequence and syntax requirements
