HAAS Alarm 57 - Automatic Lubrication System Failure

Lubrication System Fault

This alarm indicates the lubrication system has failed to complete its cycle or the lube pump motor has not activated properly. The MOCON board monitors feedback from the lube pump relay and pressure switch to verify oil is being distributed to the ways and ballscrews. When this alarm is active, the machine will not allow cycle start to protect critical components from running dry and causing premature wear or damage.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 57 fires when the Haas NGC control detects insufficient lubrication system pressure or flow through the automatic lube pump circuit. The control monitors lube pump operation via pressure switches and flow sensors, triggering this alarm when proper oil delivery to spindle bearings, ways, and servo components cannot be verified.

Safety

  • Used machine oil can contain contaminants and be caustic to skin, use gloves
  • Oil lines may be pressurized, release pressure slowly using isolation valves
  • Ensure pump power is confirmed off before inspecting electrical connections

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Oil Level Visually

Open electrical cabinet and locate the clear lube oil reservoir tank. Verify oil level is above the minimum mark on the sight gauge.

Ensure machine is powered off and locked out before opening electrical cabinet

  2. 2

    Add Appropriate Lubricant

If low, add Haas-approved Way Oil (Mobil Vactra #2 or equivalent ISO 68 way oil) through the fill port until level reaches maximum mark.

Use only the specified lubricant - incorrect viscosity will affect pump performance and flow sensors

  3. 3

    Reset Alarm and Test

Press RESET, then manually activate lube pump via MAINTENANCE > LUBE SYSTEM > MANUAL LUBE to verify proper operation before resuming automatic cycle.

Listen for smooth pump operation - grinding or irregular sounds indicate pump damage from running dry

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Pressure switch calibration needed
  • ·Multiple system components failed

Prevention

  • Check oil level weekly during daily maintenance
  • Replace lube oil every 2000 hours or annually
  • Keep spare lube pump and pressure switch in inventory
  • Monitor lube cycle timing for consistency

Common Mistakes

  • Using incorrect oil viscosity
  • Ignoring gradual increase in lube cycle time
  • Over-tightening lube line fittings causing restrictions
  • Not bleeding air from system after oil changes
