Haas 507 - TOO FEW OPERANDS ON STACK | Haas CNC Alarm

TOO FEW OPERANDS ON STACK

This alarm appears when the Haas control determines that an operation requires more operands than are currently available on the operand stack during macro expression evaluation. The control expects a certain number of values to perform a calculation or function, but the stack does not contain enough entries. Execution stops immediately because the control cannot complete the requested operation without the necessary input values.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 507 CUTTER COMP ERROR occurs when the NGC control cannot mathematically calculate a valid tool path using G41/G42 cutter radius compensation. This typically happens when the programmed geometry contains features smaller than the active tool radius, or when compensation is improperly activated/cancelled. The fix usually involves adjusting the program geometry, tool radius values, or compensation entry/exit moves.

Safety

  • Verify compensation path

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check active tool radius value

Press OFFSET/SETTING, then TOOL OFFSET tab. Note the radius value in the active tool number's R column. This is the value the control uses for compensation calculations.

Tool radius should be actual radius, not diameter - common programming error

  2. 2

Analyze program geometry at alarm line

In EDIT mode, examine the program lines around where the alarm occurred. Look for arcs with radius smaller than tool radius, or linear moves creating corners/slots narrower than 2x tool radius.

Use the graphics simulation in SETUP mode to visualize the compensation path

  3. 3

    Modify geometry or tool radius

Either increase the programmed feature sizes to be larger than 2x tool radius, or reduce the tool radius value in the tool offset table to accommodate the existing geometry.

Changing tool radius affects all moves - verify entire program after modification

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter 166 shows memory corruption
  • ·Alarm persists after program and offset corrections
  • ·Control displays additional fault codes with 507

Prevention

  • Always verify tool radius values match actual cutting tools
  • Use graphics simulation to check compensation paths before running
  • Maintain proper lead-in/lead-out moves for all G41/G42 sequences
  • Keep backup copies of tool offset tables

Common Mistakes

  • Entering tool diameter instead of radius in offset table
  • Activating compensation with G00 rapid moves
  • Programming features smaller than tool diameter without considering compensation
  • Forgetting lead-out moves before G40 cancellation
