Haas Alarm 15 - Servo Drive Fault

Servo Drive

This alarm indicates a communication or hardware fault has been detected with one or more servo drive amplifiers by the MOCON control system. The servo drives (IOCON or integrated axis cards depending on machine vintage) have failed to respond properly to commands or reported an internal fault condition. Machine motion is disabled until the fault is cleared and the affected servo amplifier is restored to proper operation.

Safety

  • Axis disabled

Common Causes

  • Blown fuse on servo amplifier power supply board or PSUP causing loss of DC bus voltage to axis drive circuits
  • Overheating of servo amplifier due to blocked cooling fan, excessive ambient temperature, or contaminated heatsink reducing thermal dissipation
  • Intermittent or failed communication cable between MOCON and IOCON or servo amplifier causing command signal loss
  • Servo amplifier internal component failure such as damaged IGBT output stage or control board circuitry
  • Encoder feedback cable fault or damaged encoder causing position loop error that triggers servo drive protective shutdown

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Note which axis is affected by checking alarm history and current message, then power cycle machine with full 30 second wait to reset servo drive fault latches
  2. 2Step 2: Check all fuses on PSUP and servo amplifier boards using multimeter, replace any blown fuses and investigate overcurrent cause before restart
  3. 3Step 3: Navigate to Diagnostics > Servo page and check servo drive status, motor current readings, and encoder counts for abnormal values on affected axis
  4. 4Step 4: Inspect cooling fans on electrical cabinet and servo amplifier heatsinks for proper operation and airflow, clean dust buildup from heatsinks and verify ambient temperature is within specification
  5. 5Step 5: Check communication cables between MOCON and servo drives for secure connections, damaged shielding, or bent pins at connectors, reseat all connections firmly
  6. 6Step 6: If alarm persists after above checks, swap suspect servo amplifier with known good axis drive to isolate failed component, coordinate with Haas support for amplifier replacement and configuration
