Fanuc Alarm PS086 - Data Ready Signal Lost

DR OFF

Fanuc alarm PS086: DR OFF. The part program or machine configuration has an error related to this alarm condition. Review the block indicated in the alarm screen and correct the command per the Fanuc programming manual.

Root Cause Summary

PS086 alarm indicates the CNC lost the Data Ready (DR) signal from an external communication device during active data transfer. This is typically caused by RS-232C or HSSB communication interruptions, loose cables, incorrect parameter settings, or external device failure. The alarm triggers when the DR signal drops unexpectedly while the CNC expects continuous communication handshaking.

Safety

  • Ensure stable connection

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Inspect the RS-232C cable at both CNC and external device ends. Check for bent pins, loose connectors, or cable damage. Verify shielding continuity with multimeter between cable shield and ground.

  2. 2

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and verify parameter 0101 bit 5 (DR signal check enable) is set correctly for your handshake protocol. Check parameter 0111 (stop bit length) and parameter 0100 (channel selection) match external device settings.

  3. 3

Replace RS-232C cable with known-good shielded cable. Use proper DB25 or DB9 straight-through or null-modem configuration as required. Test with loopback connector to verify CNC port functionality.

  4. 4

Check DIAGNOSIS > I/O screen (function key DIAGN, then I/O LINK or SERIAL) to monitor real-time RS-232C signal status including DR, CS, ER during attempted communication. Signal should remain stable HIGH during transfer.
