Fanuc Alarm 975 - BUS ERROR

SYSTEM ALARM 975

Fanuc alarm 975: SYSTEM ALARM 975. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 975 BUS ERROR indicates a communication failure on the internal CNC backplane bus between the CPU board, axis control boards, and peripheral boards. This is typically caused by loose board connections, improperly seated PCBs in the rack, damaged backplane connectors, or defective boards preventing proper data transmission across the system bus.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the CNC completely and disconnect AC input power. Wait 5 minutes for capacitors to discharge and verify with a voltmeter.

Always follow LOTO procedures. High voltage present even after power-off.

  2. 2

Open the control cabinet and identify all PCB modules in the main CNC rack (CPU board, FROM board, Axis Control boards, I/O boards). Document current positions with photos.

  3. 3

Reseat each board one at a time: firmly pull straight out using ejector handles, inspect backplane connector pins for damage/corrosion, then firmly push board back until fully seated and ejector handles lock. Pay special attention to CPU and axis boards.

Use anti-static wrist strap. Do not force boards at an angle.

  4. 4

Power up the system and observe boot sequence. Check for alarm recurrence. If alarm clears, run machine through normal cycle to verify stability.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·CPU board replacement required
  • ·Multiple boards showing failures
  • ·Intermittent alarm persists after all checks

Prevention

  • Perform quarterly board reseating
  • Monitor cabinet temperature and ventilation
  • Keep spare ribbon cables in stock
  • Document all parameter changes

Common Mistakes

  • Not waiting for capacitor discharge before handling boards
  • Forcing boards into slots without proper alignment
  • Ignoring intermittent occurrences
  • Replacing boards without checking connections first
