Fanuc 496 - Fssb hrv3 error

FSSB HRV3 ERROR

An FSSB (Fanuc Serial Servo Bus) error has been detected related to fssb hrv3 error. The serial bus communication between the CNC and servo amplifiers is affected.

Root Cause Summary

FSSB alarm 496 indicates a communication error on the Fanuc Serial Servo Bus related to HRV3 (High-speed Remote I/O Version 3) protocol failure. This typically occurs when there is a breakdown in serial communication between the CNC control and servo amplifiers, often caused by cable issues, amplifier faults, or bus termination problems.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine and visually inspect all FSSB cables between the CNC and servo amplifiers for physical damage, kinks, or excessive bending near connectors.

Always follow lockout/tagout procedures before opening electrical cabinets.

  2. 2

Disconnect and reconnect all FSSB connectors at both the CNC control side and amplifier side, checking for bent pins, debris, or corrosion. Clean connectors with electronic contact cleaner if needed.

  3. 3

Check cable routing to ensure FSSB cables are not running parallel to power cables or in areas with high electromagnetic interference. Maintain at least 6 inches separation from AC power lines.

  4. 4

If damage is found, replace the FSSB cable with a genuine Fanuc cable of the correct length and type. Test communication after replacement.

Never use non-Fanuc cables or extend FSSB cables beyond manufacturer specifications.
