Fanuc 493 - Fssb module error

FSSB MODULE ERROR

An FSSB (Fanuc Serial Servo Bus) error has been detected related to fssb module error. The serial bus communication between the CNC and servo amplifiers is affected.

Root Cause Summary

FSSB Module Error 493 indicates a communication failure or hardware fault within the Fanuc Serial Servo Bus network. This alarm typically occurs when the CNC control cannot establish or maintain proper serial communication with one or more servo amplifier modules, often due to cable issues, module hardware failure, or incorrect installation.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine completely and lock out power per safety procedures.

Always follow LOTO procedures. Verify zero voltage before touching connections.

  2. 2

Inspect all FSSB cables (typically orange fiber optic cables) for physical damage, kinks, or excessive bending. Check both ends for cracks in connectors.

Do not look directly into fiber optic cable ends. Laser light can damage eyes.

  3. 3

Disconnect and reconnect all FSSB cable connections at the CNC control unit and each servo amplifier, ensuring they click firmly into place.

  4. 4

Power up the system and observe if the alarm clears. If alarm persists, swap FSSB cables one at a time with known good spares to isolate a faulty cable.
