Fanuc Alarm 314 - ILLEGAL SETTING OF POLYGONAL AXIS

SPINDLE ALARM 314

An axis was specified invalidly in polygon turning. Check tool rotation axis parameter (No. 7610) and spindle settings.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 314 occurs during polygon turning operations when the rotary tool axis specification conflicts with the configured parameters or when the polygon axis setup is incompatible with the active spindle configuration. This is typically caused by incorrect parameter 7610 (tool rotation axis designation), mismatch between programmed axis and parameter settings, or attempting polygon turning without proper C-axis or rotary tool configuration.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and search for parameter 7610. Verify the tool rotation axis is correctly specified (typically C-axis for main spindle or C2 for sub-spindle).

  2. 2

Cross-reference parameter 7610 setting with parameter 1020 (axis name assignment) to confirm the specified axis actually exists in your machine configuration.

  3. 3

Verify parameter 5440#0 (C-axis control enable) is set to 1 if using C-axis for polygon turning. For rotary tool configurations, confirm parameter 5431 (rotary axis number) matches the axis in 7610.

  4. 4

After correcting parameter 7610, power cycle the control (full power OFF/ON) to ensure parameter changes take effect, then retest polygon turning operation with G51.2.

Parameter write enable (PWE) must be active. Set parameter 3202#0=1 temporarily or use key switch.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes don't resolve alarm
  • ·Software options are missing
  • ·Mechanical axis configuration issues

Prevention

  • Always verify axis configuration before programming polygon turning
  • Document parameter 7610 settings for each machine
  • Test polygon turning setup with simple programs first

Common Mistakes

  • Setting parameter 7610 to linear axis instead of rotary axis
  • Forgetting to power cycle after parameter changes
  • Using G51.2 without verifying axis availability
