70003

Siemens 70003 - Channel Yf is larger than the effective arm length

Channel Yf is larger than the effective arm length

In JOG mode, the Yf axis is traversed. The value of the Yf axis is larger than the sum of the arm lengths and the current tool length in the Z direction Control reaction: Mode group not ready. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 70003 indicates that the Yf (Y-axis feed) position has exceeded the maximum allowable workspace boundary defined by the sum of arm lengths and tool length offset in the Z direction. This is a kinematic limit check in JOG mode that prevents tool collision with the machine structure or workpiece by enforcing the effective reach envelope.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Diagnostics > Machine Data > Geometry (MD 32400 series) in the SINUMERIK control interface. Verify GEOM_ARM_LENGTH and GEOM_ARM_LENGTH_SEC values match machine design documentation and CAD drawings.

Do not modify MD values without documented machine specifications; incorrect arm length data causes kinematic faults.

  2. 2

Cross-reference the stored MD 32400/32410 values against the mechanical build drawing and the original OEM commissioning documentation. Confirm measurement units (typically mm) are consistent.

  3. 3

If parameters are incorrect, update via Diagnostics menu or HMI parameter download. Perform a full system shutdown and warm restart to reload MD values into NCK memory.
