Siemens 840D 61191 - Channel block: 5 axis transformation not set up

Channel block: 5 axis transformation not set up

Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 61191: Channel block: 5 axis transformation not set up. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 61191 is triggered when CYCLE832 (5-axis tool compensation cycle) executes without a valid 5-axis transformation configured in the NCK. This occurs when the kinematic model required for simultaneous 5-axis interpolation has not been properly initialized or selected in the machine data.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Diagnostics > Machine Data > Axis/Spindle tab. Locate MD20050 (Kinematic model) and verify it is set to a valid model number (typically 1-10 depending on machine configuration, NOT 0).

Do not modify MD20050 without consulting machine documentation; incorrect values can cause unsafe kinematics.

  2. 2

Check MD20051 (Transformation type) is set to a valid value such as TRAFOTYPE_1 or TRAFOTYPE_5 (5-axis simultaneous). Confirm in Diagnostics > Machine Data that the transformation matches your physical machine geometry.

  3. 3

If parameters are undefined or zero, enter the correct values per your machine's kinematic configuration documentation and perform a warm restart (Diagnostics > Restart NCK).

  4. 4

After restart, verify transformation is active by checking Diagnostics > Kernel > Transformation tab; status should show transformation ACTIVE or READY, not INACTIVE.
