61005

Siemens 61005 - Block : 3rd geometry axis not available

Block: 3rd geometry axis not available

With an application on the lathe with no Y-axis in the G18 plane

Root Cause Summary

ALARM 61005 occurs when CYCLE86 (threading or similar cycle) is invoked on a lathe configured without a Y-axis in the G18 plane, but the cycle macro internally requires a third geometry axis for positioning or tool compensation. The NCK cannot execute the required geometry axis motion because it is either not declared in the channel kinematics or not available in the active plane definition.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Siemens HMI > Diagnostics > Parameters > Machine Data > Axis/Spindle Configuration. Verify MD20070 (GeometryAxisAssignment) lists the Y-axis as an available geometry axis for the active channel.

  2. 2

Confirm MD20050 (AxisAssignment) declares Y-axis with appropriate axis type. For lathe, Y should be configured as a linear geometry axis, not a rotary or spindle axis.

  3. 3

If Y-axis hardware exists but is not declared, add the axis designation in the channel kinematics. Recompile channel data and perform a PLC reset (Ctrl+Alt+R on HMI or via NCK menu).

Requires machine parameterization expertise; contact Siemens CAM if uncertain of axis configuration.

  4. 4

Test CYCLE86 call with G18 active after confirming Y-axis availability in MD20070.
