Siemens 840D 4282 - Hardware of external NCK outputs assigned repeatedly
Alarm 4282 occurs when multiple NCK external outputs are mapped to identical hardware byte addresses in the machine data configuration. This hardware resource conflict prevents proper output signal assignment and causes the system to reject the configuration during startup or parameter download.
Siemens 840D 4282 - Hardware of external NCK outputs assigned repeatedly
Hardware of external NCK outputs assigned repeatedly
Siemens SINUMERIK 840D system notice 4282: Hardware of external NCK outputs assigned repeatedly. This is a system-level notification regarding machine data or configuration. Note the message details and take the indicated action.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 4282 occurs when multiple NCK external outputs are mapped to identical hardware byte addresses in the machine data configuration. This hardware resource conflict prevents proper output signal assignment and causes the system to reject the configuration during startup or parameter download.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access Siemens SINUMERIK 840D parameter editor and navigate to Machine Data > NCK > Output Signals. Review MD10100 EXTERN_SIGNAL_OUTPUT array entries and verify the hardware byte assignments (typically specified as module byte offset).
Cross-reference all output signal definitions in the machine data table. Create a spreadsheet documenting each output signal name, its assigned hardware byte, bit position, and physical I/O module. Identify any duplicate byte assignments.
Document both direct MD assignments and any inherited definitions from template or referenced configuration files.
For each duplicate byte assignment, reassign the conflicting output to a unique, available hardware byte that corresponds to an unoccupied I/O module address. Ensure the byte offset does not conflict with existing analog, digital, or diagnostic outputs.
Download the corrected machine data to the NCK. Power cycle the control or perform a cold start (warm restart may not clear the hardware mapping cache). Verify alarm 4282 no longer appears in the diagnostic buffer.
