Siemens 4014 - Axis defined several times in
Alarm 4014 fires when the NCK configuration parser detects duplicate axis declarations in the machine data (MD) or part program context. This occurs during system startup or part program compilation when an axis identifier is assigned multiple times across machine axes, link axes, or container location definitions, violating the unique axis naming constraint in the SINUMERIK 840D configuration.

Causes and Fixes
Access Siemens SINUMERIK 840D NCK menu via HMI: Navigate to Diagnosis > Machine Data > Axis Configuration. Search for parameter MD 30010 (axis name) and verify no duplicate entries exist across all configured axes.
Do not modify MD parameters while cycle is running; enter MDI or STOP mode first.
Cross-reference the axis name listed in the alarm message (%1) against all axis parameter blocks (typically MD 30000-30999 range). Use the parameter filter to isolate all instances of the problematic axis identifier.
If duplicates are found, delete or rename the secondary axis definition. Ensure MD 30010 contains unique values only. Verify MD 30011 (axis type: 0=machine axis, 1=link axis) is correctly set for each axis.
Backup machine data before modification using NCK > Backup menu.
Save MD changes and perform system warm reset (power cycle or NCK Reset via HMI). Monitor system startup messages for alarm clearance.
