Siemens 840D 16913 - Mode group channel mode change: action <ALNX> not

Mode group channel mode change: action <ALNX> not

The change to the desired mode is not permitted. The change can only take place in the Reset state. Example: Program processing is halted in AUTO mode by NC Stop. Then there is a mode change to JOG mode (program status interrupted). From this operating mode it is only possible to change to AUTO mode

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Attempting mode change while NC program is actively running or in an intermediate state other than Reset
  • Program execution halted by NC Stop command without returning to Reset state before mode change
  • Conflicting mode transitions requested from an interrupted program state
  • Safety interlock preventing mode change due to active motion or spindle rotation
  • Control system state not properly synchronized with requested mode change action

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the control is in Reset state by pressing the Reset button on the control panel; confirm no program execution is active or interrupted
  2. 2If program is halted in AUTO mode, explicitly return to Reset state before attempting mode change to JOG or other modes
  3. 3Check for any active motion, spindle rotation, or tool offset compensation that may be preventing the mode transition
  4. 4Review the sequence of mode changes in your operating procedure; refer to machine documentation for valid mode transition paths
  5. 5If the issue persists, perform a soft reset by cycling the control power off and back on after confirming safe machine state
