SYST-001

Fanuc Robot SYST-001 - HOLD button is being pressed

HOLD button is being pressed

The HOLD button is currently pressed. The robot cannot run a program while HOLD is active. This is an informational alarm indicating the hold condition is preventing program execution.

Root Cause Summary

SYST-001 HOLD button alarm indicates the robot's hold circuit is active, preventing program execution. This is an informational status alarm, not a fault condition. The hold state can be triggered by physical buttons, external I/O signals, programmed HOLD instructions, or UOP signals from integrated controllers.

Safety

  • Always verify robot is in a safe stopped state before entering the work envelope
  • Use T1 mode when testing after clearing servo or motion alarms

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check teach pendant HOLD button

Inspect the yellow HOLD button on the teach pendant. Verify it is not stuck in the depressed position. The button should spring back when released. If stuck, the button mechanism may need replacement.

Do not disable hold functionality by bypassing buttons. HOLD is a critical safety feature for operator intervention.

  2. 2

    Check operator panel HOLD button

Locate the HOLD button on the main operator panel (typically yellow or orange). Ensure it is in the released position and not mechanically jammed. Press and release to verify proper spring action.

Older panels may have accumulated dirt or adhesive residue causing buttons to stick. Clean around button housing with isopropyl alcohol.

  3. 3

    Verify hold circuit continuity

Navigate to MENU > I/O > Signal > HOLD to view real-time hold circuit status. All hold inputs should show '0' (not active) when buttons are released. If showing '1' with no button pressed, suspect wiring or switch contact failure.

The hold circuit is series-connected. A fault anywhere in the chain will trigger this alarm.

  4. 4

    Clear alarm and resume

After releasing the HOLD button, press the RESET button to clear the alarm. Press and hold CYCLE START to resume program execution. The alarm will immediately return if hold condition persists.
