Fanuc Robot SRVO-020 - SERVO power off (Single step)
SRVO-020 occurs when the servo power automatically turns off during or after single-step operation due to the auto servo-off timeout feature. This is a normal protective function on R-30iA/R-30iB controllers designed to remove power when the robot is paused for an extended period. The alarm indicates the timeout threshold was exceeded while stepping through a program in single-step mode.
Fanuc Robot SRVO-020 - SERVO power off (Single step)
SERVO power off (Single step)
Servo power was removed during or after a single-step operation. The robot paused between program steps and servo power timed out.
Root Cause Summary
SRVO-020 occurs when the servo power automatically turns off during or after single-step operation due to the auto servo-off timeout feature. This is a normal protective function on R-30iA/R-30iB controllers designed to remove power when the robot is paused for an extended period. The alarm indicates the timeout threshold was exceeded while stepping through a program in single-step mode.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Clear the alarm and restore servo power
Press the RESET button on the teach pendant to clear SRVO-020. Then press and hold the SHIFT button and press FWD (deadman switch) to restore servo power. Alternatively, turn the mode switch to AUTO and back to T1/T2 if deadman is unavailable.
Check current servo-off timeout setting
Navigate to MENU → SYSTEM → Variables on the teach pendant. Press F1 [TYPE] and select 'System Variables'. Scroll to find $MISC_DIS.$SVOFTIME. This value shows the current timeout in minutes. Default is typically 5-10 minutes depending on controller configuration.
Write down the current value before making changes so you can restore it after your debugging session is complete.
Increase the servo-off timeout value
While viewing $MISC_DIS.$SVOFTIME, move the cursor to the value field and press ENTER. Input a larger timeout value (e.g., 30 or 60 minutes) to allow more time between single steps. Press ENTER to confirm. The change takes effect immediately without requiring a controller restart.
Increasing this timeout means the robot will remain energized longer during pauses. Ensure proper safety procedures are followed and never leave the robot unattended with servo power on.
Resume single-step operation
Return to your program (SELECT → your program). Ensure you are in T1 or T2 mode with single-step enabled (STEP button indicator lit). Press and hold the deadman switch and press FWD to continue stepping through the program at your own pace.
If you need to pause for extended periods frequently, consider setting $MISC_DIS.$SVOFTIME to 0, which disables auto servo-off entirely during your session.
