Fanuc Alarm SP0001 - Spindle Motor Overheat
Fanuc SP0001 alarm indicates the spindle motor thermistor or thermal relay has detected excessive temperature in the spindle motor windings. This is triggered when the temperature signal from the spindle amplifier exceeds the threshold set in spindle parameters, protecting the motor from thermal damage. Common causes include inadequate cooling, excessive load, improper acceleration parameters, or amplifier/sensor failures.
Fanuc Alarm SP0001 - Spindle Motor Overheat
Spindle Overheat
Thermal protection alarm activated. The spindle overheat has exceeded safe operating temperature and requires immediate attention to prevent component damage.
Root Cause Summary
Fanuc SP0001 alarm indicates the spindle motor thermistor or thermal relay has detected excessive temperature in the spindle motor windings. This is triggered when the temperature signal from the spindle amplifier exceeds the threshold set in spindle parameters, protecting the motor from thermal damage. Common causes include inadequate cooling, excessive load, improper acceleration parameters, or amplifier/sensor failures.

Causes and Fixes
Check spindle motor cooling fan operation. Verify fan rotates freely and check voltage at fan terminals (typically 200VAC or 24VDC depending on model). Inspect fan filter and motor cooling fins for dust/debris accumulation.
Ensure main power is locked out before inspecting fan wiring or motor body
Navigate to DIAGNOSIS > SP (spindle) screen and monitor diagnostic D0001 (spindle motor temperature) and D0020 (spindle load meter). Compare temperature reading to normal operating range (typically 40-60°C ambient dependent).
For liquid-cooled spindles, verify coolant flow rate and temperature. Check coolant chiller operation, lines for blockage, and flow switch status on DIAGNOSIS > PMC > I/O display.
Clear alarm after cooling system repair. Allow motor to cool for minimum 30 minutes. Reset alarm via SYSTEM > ALARM > HIST, then test spindle at low speeds (500-1000 RPM) while monitoring D0001 temperature trend.
