Fanuc 532 - Spindle phase error

SPINDLE PHASE ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 532: SPINDLE PHASE ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 532 SPINDLE PHASE ERROR indicates the spindle amplifier has detected an incorrect or missing phase signal from the spindle motor encoder or the motor winding phases are not matching the encoder feedback. This typically occurs due to encoder wiring issues, damaged encoder, incorrect motor wiring, or amplifier detection circuit failure.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine completely and lockout/tagout.

Always follow LOTO procedures before working on electrical components

  2. 2

Inspect the spindle encoder cable from motor to amplifier for damage, pinching, or contamination. Check connector pins for bent, corroded, or loose contacts.

  3. 3

Disconnect and reconnect encoder cable at both motor and amplifier ends, ensuring proper seating and locking mechanisms are engaged.

  4. 4

Measure encoder cable continuity and insulation resistance between all signal lines and between signals and ground. Replace cable if readings are abnormal.
